What is a USI?

The Unique Student Identifier or USI is a reference number made up of 10 numbers and letters that:/p>

  • Creates a secure online record of your recognised training and qualifications gained in Australia, even from different training organisations
  • Will give you access to your training records and transcripts (available in mid 2016)
  • Can be accessed online, anytime and anywhere
  • Is free and easy to create and stays with you for life

Who needs a USI and why?

If you do not already applied and been issued with a your unique student identifier then individuals in the following categories need to apply for a USI

  • Australian citizens and residents studying nationally recognised training courses in Australia.
  • New Zealand citizens studying nationally recognised training courses in Australia.
  • International students studying nationally recognised training courses in Australia
  • Australian expats or residents studying nationally recognised training courses outside Australia.

Note: If you don't have a USI you will not receive your qualification or statement of attainment.

What does my USI do?

Your USI links to an online account that contains all your training records that you have completed from 1 January 2015 onwards. These records and a transcript will be available in your USI account in mid 2016.

One of the main benefits of having a USI is having easy access to your training records and transcripts. When applying for a job or enrolling in further study, you often need to provide these records. From mid 2016, you will be able to access your USI account online anytime from your:

  • Computer
  • Tablet
  • Smart phone

Once you create your USI you will be able to:

  • Give your USI to each training organisation you study with
  • View and update your details in your USI account
  • View and download your training records and transcript
  • Manage which training organisations can view your transcript
  • Manage which training organisations can view and/or update your details in your USI account
